Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic (37 years old, 2nd place ATP) fulfilled his dream, winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, the only big title he was missing, after defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the singles final, after an extraordinary performance. Recently, he made a promise, according to the prime minister of Montenegro, to contribute to the development of “white sports” in this country.
Novak Djokovic spent a few days of holidaying in Montenegro before starting preparation for the US Open, the last Grand Slam tournament of this season.
Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajic announced what promise Novak Djokovic made: ‘We will go to the 2028 Olympics much more prepared’
The Serbian athlete is not only a tennis legend, but also one of the people who advocates for the development of this sport.
In a recent interview, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic revealed that Novak Djokovic had promised him that he would contribute free of charge to the development of sport in the country.
“Novak is ready to provide us with expert assistance for free to create systemic support for sports in Montenegro. By developing new legal solutions, we want to finally support our young people in the right direction and to have optimal working conditions for athletes. We will go to the 2028 Olympics much more prepared,” the Montenegro prime minister said, according to Tennisworldusa.org.
The former world No 1 has yet to win any ATP titles this year and will bet on the US Open to not end the season without even winning a Grand Slam. The 37-year-old Belgrade player went through difficult times in early 2024 but fulfilled his dream by winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics after a remarkable performance in front of Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Novak Djokovic will be one of the main favourites to win the tournament held in New York if he plays at the same level expressed during the 2024 Olympics.
The main opponents at Flushing Meadows are Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, without forgetting Medvedev and Zverev.
