The driver market for the 2025 season is far from over, several seats are still up for grabs and drivers are awaiting confirmation from their team.
Haas has at least one available seat for next year after the agreement of Nico Hülkenberg with Sauber/Audi, while the future of Kevin Magnussen is also uncertain after a difficult start to the season for the Dane, with his contract expiring at the end of the season. The American team is therefore considering its options, and is interested in the profile of Alpine drivers, who have not yet been confirmed for 2025.
For the Anglo-French team, it is necessary to remain vigilant and be aware of its best options, in a 2024 season start that is proving harder than expected with only one point scored so far. Mick Schumacher is one of these options, the former Haas driver currently running for Alpine in Hypercar, the top category of the WEC.
Although he hasn’t made a top 10 finish after three races, alongside his teammates Nicolas Lapierre and Matthieu Vaxiviere, Schumacher’s performance in the Alpine has dazzled the team director, Bruno Famin, who says he is truly impressed by the experience and mindset of his driver. Mick is doing an incredible job in endurance. What is very impressive is his mindset, he stated.
Of course, he is fast, but I think everyone knows he is fast. In endurance, it is not always useful to set a very good lap time because you have the BoP on top of that and you have to be a little cautious with performance.
But the important thing is not to evaluate the pure performance of the pilot, but where Mick was really incredible, it is in his adaptation to the endurance mindset. It is often said that single-seater drivers are selfish. Mick, from the first minute, was very open, very cooperative, really helpful for his teammates, willing to learn everything, especially about endurance, with a great team spirit.
Bruno Famin confirmed that Schumacher is one of the many possibilities for 2025. He also specified that having a French driver was not a priority for the team, Alpine being open to all options, regardless of experience and nationality, while also being keen to take its time before making a decision.
