Alpine makes it official – Schumacher gets the short end of the stick
Jack Doohan is about to get his next chance in Formula 1 : the young driver will be driving for Alpine at the British Grand Prix. He will be allowed to drive in the first free practice session at Silverstone.
For Doohan, this is his third chance in a very short space of time to prove himself in a Formula 1 car. He is still hoping for a place at Alpine. But Mick Schumacher is also still hoping for the cockpit.
Formula 1: Doohan drives FP1 at Silverstone
Doohan was already allowed to drive Esteban Ocon’s Alpine in Canada. However, due to the rain, he only managed three laps. In Silverstone, he will have another chance as part of the Young Drivers program. He will take over Pierre Gasly’s car in the first free practice session.
From Mick Schumacher’s point of view, this is quite piquant: On Wednesday (July 3), Schumacher will be doing a test in the 2022 A522 at Silverstone. And Doohan will also be testing the car there. From the outside, it is seen as an elimination race, because both are considered candidates for the cockpit at Alpine. The test allows Alpine to compare the drivers precisely.

But Doohan will get another chance just a few days later and will be allowed to drive the current Alpine in the first free practice session on Friday in Silverstone. This means he can offer the team bosses even more of himself. Schumi Jr. can only watch.
Schumacher himself will not take part in a training session for Alpine. The reason: The teams are obliged to put a rookie behind the wheel in two free practice sessions. However, Schumi Jr. no longer falls under this rule due to his two years in Formula 1.
