Andrea Bocelli received an honorary doctorate – and doesn’t want another one
The exceptional tenor Andrea Bocelli justifies this by saying that giving a speech at a prestigious university causes his heart to pound too much.
The exceptional Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli no longer wants any more honorary doctorate hats. When the University of Naples awarded him an honorary doctorate, the 65-year-old announced: “This is not my first honorary degree, but it will be the last.”
Bocelli (“Time To Say Goodbye”) justified this by saying that giving a speech in front of the entire academic staff at such a prestigious university made his heart pound too much.
“I’m just a poor singer from the provinces and I’m not used to things like that,” said the blind tenor from Tuscany who studied law. He received what is believed to be his last honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Federico II. Bocelli received the award on Monday.
