Jannik Sinner Shattered Fans Hope, Releases Bad Update on His Injury
Jannik Sinner, the second tennis superstar who was previously announced, is missing from the tournament in the Italian capital.
Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner has canceled his participation in the ATP Masters in Rome. After world number three Carlos Alcaraz, the 22-year-old Italian is the next top star missing from the clay court event.
” After speaking to the doctors and specialists again about my hip problems, I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome,” Sinner wrote on X. Wimbledon champion Alcaraz also decided not to take part in the event in the run-up to the French Open (from May 26th) due to problems with his hitting arm.
Former US Open champion Andy Roddick sees the reasons for the injuries as being due to the extremely full and long ATP calendar. He sees the current stars in a dilemma.
“The way the calendar is currently structured, it’s doing the players absolutely no favors,” says Roddick in his podcast “Served.” Above all, he criticizes the fact that many ATP 1000 tournaments, including Madrid and Rome, have been extended to two weeks.
“When should the players work on their bodies?” asks the former world number one: “In the past you could skip a 1000 tournament with Monte Carlo and have a month to train. That’s over.”
Sinner aggravated his hip injury during the tournament in Madrid because he was doing physical workouts in addition to games and training, said Roddick.
This means that players like Sinner and Alcaraz are in a quandary: “If you want to be number one, you have to play all of these tournaments – not everyone is a Novak Djokovic who wins three Grand Slam tournaments and is therefore in first place. It’s a math problem.”
