Point between life and death: Nina Dobrev fakes cancer
Before you know it, little lies can quickly snowball and you definitely shouldn’t lie about certain things like cancer anyway. Eleven years ago, the German comedy Heiter bis wolkig with Max Riemelt and Elyas M’Barek as two friends who use a cancer lie as a rip-off scam showed that some people do it in films and what effects it has. “Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev also fakes cancer as Wren Prepper in her new R-rated comedy Sick Girl , originally to bring her slowly drifting apart clique of friends back together. Before she knows it, however, the lie spirals out of control and Wren faces increasingly serious consequences.
Sick Girl is Dobrev’s second film this year after the action comedy The Out-Laws and actually looks a little more promising than the Netflix dud. Wendi McLendon-Covey ( The Goldbergs ), Dan Bakkedahl ( Veep ), Brandon Mychal Smith ( You’re the Worst ), Sherry Cola ( Good Trouble ) and Stephanie Koenig ( The Flight Attendant” ) play other roles in the comedy. Casting manager Jennifer Cram wrote the screenplay for Sick Girl and is making her directorial debut with the film.
Sick Girl was released in the USA on October 20th in select cinemas, digitally and via video-on-demand. The German release date has not yet been set. Below you will find the film trailer, which seems to show the entire film, three official clips and the film poster for Sick Girl . The film doesn’t look particularly original or clever, but to be honest it can’t be much worse than most of the films Dobrev has made since her “Vampire Diaries” exit.
